PINARHİSAR CASTLE
The castle is 1 Km away from the Pınarhisar town center.
History
The exact date of construction of the castle is not known. But, it is predicted that it was built during the 5th century by Byzantine Empire. According to the informations, a famous knight of Byzantine Empire named as “Demetriades The Cosmos” had started the construction of the castle. It was built as an outpost of the Byzantine Empire.
Preservation
“General Directorate of Foundations” “Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü” is responsinle for the preservation of the area.
Area Descriptions
Today, the remains of the two majestic towers and the rectangular headquarter can be seen. In various parts of Pınarhisar, the remains of the walls of the castle are found and the remains of the south side tower are detected just below the ruins of the city. One can see groundwork of three bastions and ruins of the walls in the town. Round-shaped bastions are supported with hackings with one meter spaces. Face stone can be seen too. It was constructed with filled rubble wall. During the excavations at the site, some types of cruses have also been found.
