THRACIAN BEEHIVE TOMB - MAUSOLEUM NEAR THE TOWN OF POMORIE

History

Archaeological cultural monument of national significance, presenting the Thracian cult to the ancestors. The tomb-mausoleum is located inside a high earth mound. It is built entirely of brick and is the largest, disclosed in Bulgarian lands. It consists of 22 meters long vaulted corridor and a round central hall with diameter 11.60 m in a unique architectural design. In its center stands a hollow circular column with spiral stairway that leads to the top of the mound.
The tomb - mausoleum was built in the 1st-2nd century AD for representatives of a noble aristocratic family living in the ancient Thracian city Anhialo.

Preservation

Upcoming implementation of a project for restoration of the cultural monument and a socialization of the terrain in front of it.

Area Descriptions

The tomb is located under the embankment of a mound in the western necropolis of the ancient town of Pomorie, northwest of the road Pomorie - Burgas, 500 meters north of holiday camp "Europe".
Public access: 300 m along asphalt road that leads to a small parking lot in front of the tomb.
