Burgas – Atanasovsko Lake – Ancient and medieval port and fortress, residential quarter Sarafovo – Thracian tomb Heroon (campsite Evropa)

The route starts at the Point Zero in the city centre of Burgas located at the intersection of the main street Alexandrovska and St. Cyril and Methodius st. From this point, drive through Troikata square to reach the bike lane along the streets Gen.Gurko and Adam Mickiewicz towards the Sea Garden, where the designated bicycle lanes lead to the asphalt road for Burgas Salt Works - South. You will pass through the security zone, where are the basins with lye and therapeutic mud on Lake Atanasovsko. So far the distance is 4.9 km and takes about 45 minutes.

The route continues north to the Bunker and then through a dirt road along to the shore, which splits in two and you can choose between smooth ascent with panoramic views of the open fields in the area Kyusheto and then down to the beach in Sarafovo, or direct descent to the concrete dike by the coast, leading to the harbour and beach, where the two routes meet. The last 250 m to the archaeological site you will walk along the sand. Ancient and medieval port and fortress Sarafovo dates back to the 4th - 8th century and has a status of archaeological cultural heritage of national significance. Total distance to the lye basins: 5.5 km, 250 m over sand, 500 m on asphalt and the rest on a dirt road. Duration - 40 minutes.

The route goes back to the central beach, then through the centre of Sarafovo. Drive over a dirt road along the dual carriage way Burgas - Varna I-9. You will go past several villas built in the old vineyards and Cape Lahna, and then continue to the concrete dike towards the camp-site Evropa along I-9. Pass along the newly built residential complex and after hotel Rich Daddy (still under construction) cross the main road, 400 m from where after following the small internal road you will find the largest tomb discovered so far in Bulgaria - the Thracian beehive tomb - mausoleum near the town of Pomorie (part of the archaeological site "Ancient necropolis of Ulpia Anhialeon Paleokastro.")

The time to reach the tomb coming from Sarafovo is about 1 hour and 20 minutes, the distance is 9.9 km, of which 250 m over sand and 2.8 km asphalt.

Return to Burgas city along the same route.

Food and drink: Take with! During the hike food and drinks can be purchased only in coastal restaurants and shops in Sarafovo.

Equipment: bicycle, tires with tread pattern suitable for asphalt and dirt roads, sports suit and shoes, raincoat, small backpack or saddlebags, map of the area or GPS device, helmet, glasses - sun protection or insects stopping, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, spare inner tire, tire patches, pump, tool kit, front and rear bicycle lights.
